One more reason why I think the world has gone insane…
Article: The truth hurts more than a beheading?
by Michael Ackley

Down in Somalia, for example, a Muslim cleric said, in essence, "Call Islam violent? We’ll kill you!"

In fact, "we’ll kill you" is a common Islamic reaction to affronts. Being left alone isn’t enough. Take the case of the Danish newspaper that published cartoons impiously depicting Mohammed. After publication of the cartoons, imams in the Middle East issued fatwas ordering the death of all connected to the offending art work.

You may recall Salman Rushdie’s "Satanic Verses," a novel that placed the author under a death sentence for offending Islam. Rushdie, who knew the threat was not idle, hid out for a long time and has managed to stay alive. But Theo Van Gogh is dead because he produced a film portraying Islam as hostile to women.

Westerners may be forgiven for asking: Isn’t Islam violent? Isn’t it hostile to women? Forget for a moment the religion’s history. Contemporary examples of Islamic savagery abound: The plight of the pathetic rape victim in Nigeria, barely saved from execution (her rape-induced pregnancy was evidence of adultery); the "honor" killings of women from Pakistan to Gaza for marrying into the wrong sect or refusing arranged marriages; the employment of gang rape as punishment; murderous intra-Islamic sectarian strife; the beheadings of hostages; the fact that apostacy remains a capital offense under Sharia law.
